IGDA Columbus Chapter

We have recently been in touch with the international game developer’s association Columbus chapter.  In the future we see a lot more opportunities and events that will be available to both of our organizations and greatly look forward to collaborating with them.  In our recent contact, Ian and Neil (columbus chapter leaders) have let us know about an event they are putting on the weekend before fall classes start.  Read more about their organization and the event by clicking “continue reading.”

New Guys and Upcoming Events

Many of you have probably seen our announcements for open positions of treasurer and social coordinator.  Well, we have finally filled those positions.  Let’s all welcome our new treasurer, Jingwei and new social coordinator, Phillip.  This year with the help of Jingwei and Phillip we will be getting a lot more involved with social events and raising money so we can buy things we need to keep the club up to date with resources we need.  Some of these events will include lan parties and tournaments both exclusive to club members and large public events/fundraisers.

To start the year off right, this year I have signed us up for a table/booth at the student involvement fair.  We hope that anyone that can volunteer to help out manning the booth will let us know so we can break up the shifts to be a little more comfortable.  The fair will be held on the oval Monday September 22nd from 12:00pm (noon) to 4pm.  We’ll have more information on what we will have at the booth and where our specific location will be on the oval closer to the event.

Yet another development we are working on is becoming an official recognized game club by the igda (international game developer’s association – ).  If(when) recognized we will have more benefits such as being seen by all developer’s/studios who are also affiliated with igda (almost if not all major developers).  We will also have other benefits such as discounts on certain events (ex. GDC), access to a pool of speakers that we could ask to come to OSU to talk to us about the industry and developing games.  This aspect may be a great way to use our funds if we would need to fly a speaker out and provide a room and food for their stay.  I will keep everyone updated when we hear back from igda on our status.

There will be many more updates coming in the future.  This coming year should be a much more exciting one as our club grows more and more.

New Theme is Live!

Website: Awesome, after quite a while in development we finally have the new theme live.  The theme is not finished yet however as there are some places where we missed some color changes as you will notice some links or other text may be awkward colors, or some other strange happenings will occur while browsing the site.  In addition to the facelift, there will eventually be changes regarding member’s pages and project’s pages.  We’ll keep everyone updated as need be.

Open Positions: We hope to get things rolling soon with the tank game once again as well as some other things.  In the meantime we are still eagerly waiting for a new treasurer and social coordinator.  Please ask your friends if they want to join no matter what their major is.  These positions will look great on a resume and provide great experience.  In addition to these positions there are opportunities for other positions to open as we see fit, or as you suggest.  So again, if you know anyone interested in a the club in general and any others that would like to help us out in these positions, let us know.  I can’t stress enough how important it is to fill these positions before October this year.  In order to continue as an official OSU student organization we must at least have an active treasurer.  Alrighty, I hope everyone gets the picture and can help out just by asking around.  Hope everyone’s summers have been good to you and continue to do so.
